San Marcos

The party in honor of San Marcos takes place the April 25th. Formerly this celebration took place in the “Cucos”, refuges of farmers in the countryside. Currently, the residents of Almedina celebrate a pilgrimage in the Hermitage of San Isidro and San Cristóbal, and the “Hornazo” food is a tradition (sweet cake that contains chorizo and a boiled egg). In addition, in the day of San Marcos is carried out a long tradition of Campo de Montiel, known as “Espantar el diablo”(Scare away the devil). It consists on knotting the stems of a plant or bush, with which it symbolically ties, frightens or throws the “devil” out of the place.
